Montague Dawson (British, 1890-1973), "A Stiff Breeze", oil on canvas, 59cm x 90cm, signed lower right, titled to mount, glazed, gilt swept frame 93cm x 123cm, Roberson & Co canvas, provenance - sold on behalf of the estate of the Late Mavis Booth, married to Michael Booth, (Booths supermarket), reputedly purchased from Sotheby's circa 1960s and possibly lot 181 Sotheby's Fine 19th & 20th Century British & Continental Paintings, October 16th 1968 (not confirmed).

Condition - even craquelure, particularly to sky, inspected under UV light, no evidence of later over painting nor any evidence of repair, pictured behind glass and admittedly difficult to photograph, subtleties of shades in the sky aren't particularly visible on the online images, nor the palette work in the sea, minor wear to frame including some very slight losses to gilding, section of loose moulding to base.
